ROWING: Varsity has new home

From the The Oxford Times, first published Thursday 14th Jun 2007.

Oxford University Boat Club, homeless for the 178 years, officially opened their new Boat House at Wallingford last Sunday, writes Mike Rosewell The new structure, including Boat Houses, changing rooms, offices, reception rooms and accommodation for the Boat House Manager, was financed by an appeal that raised just under £4 m.

Some 200 guests of Old Blues, appeal supporters, coaches past and present, and Wallingford neighbours were present to see Robin Fleming, a member of a renowned Oxford University rowing family, cut the ribbon to christen the Fleming Boat House.

Local action this weekend centres on Reading Regatta, held as two separate events on Saturday and Sunday over 1500 metres and 1100 metres respectively.

The huge entry led to 100 crews failing to be accepted.
