RUGBY: Chinnor name nine new boys

From the Oxford Mail, first published Friday 1st Sep 2006.

Chinnor will field nine debutants for their first ever National 3 (South) match at Kingsey Road tomorrow (3).

The side to face Clifton features just one back, centre Darren Oxley, who started their South West 1 championship deciding victory over Maidenhead in April.

Making their bows alongside Oxley will be centre John Pritchard, full back Chris Sutton, wingers Nick and Richard Grimsdell and scrum half Gareth Duder.

Props Joe Isefo and Paddy Conlon and flankers Harry Jackman and Johan de Bruin are the other new boys, but a familiar face will captain the team in experienced No 8 Paul Hennessy.

Hooker and fitness coach Jon Phipps provides cover on the bench and would become debutant No 10 if he plays.

Head coach John Brodley said: "Playing Clifton at home is a good start for us and we must take advantage of the fact we beat them last year and know so much about them.

"The first 20 minutes will be crucial to the outcome of the game. During that time it is important to control the ball and not let the opposition grow in confidence.

"I expect a monumental effort from my forwards and total concentration and communication from the back line.

"Everyone will be excited, but it is vital that emotions are controlled and channelled into the game."

Henley Hawks have eight new faces for their National 2 clash at Launceston.

They field an entirely new front row of props Andy Le Chevalier and Tom French alongside hooker and new captain Liam Wordley.

Also debuing in the pack are 6ft 8in lock Rob Hurrell and flanker Stean Williams, while Jim Farndon starts at fly half and Sam Caben is at right wing.

New Zealander Pete McKee completes the eight at reserve scrum half.
