Rugby: Local hero Holloway set for Hawks debut

From the archive, first published Friday 1st Oct 2004.

Henley Hawks are set to give a debut to former Bicester junior Adam Holloway when they take on fellow National League 1 strugglers Sedgley Park at Dry Leas tomorrow.

Holloway signed for Coventry last summer, but things did not work out and so he has now come back to Oxfordshire.

The back row forward played junior rugby at Bicester before going to New Zealand for a couple of seasons, where he did well playing for Wellington Hurricanes B side.

He impressed as a replacement for the Henley Alliance side last Saturday, and he is expected to add pace to the back row.

The Hawks will make other changes to the squad that earned a bonus point at Coventry.

Outside the scrum, centre Mike Tamati is ruled out with a back injury. Ric Van Zyl, Billy O'Driscoll and Russell Osman are vying for the vacancy.

Welsh international Matt Robinson comes into consideration for a place on the left wing having finished his suspension.

Two players make their league debuts for Chinnor as they visit Clevedon in South West 1.

New Zealand Universities flanker Zane Winslade had to watch from the touchline as his new team beat Oxford Harlequins last week.

The Kiwi was registered late because of a delayed flight from Malaysia, but he is now clear to play.

He joins former Oxfordshire Under 21 fly half Laurence O'Flannigan in a full-strength squad.

Oxford Harlequins travel to Gloucester Old Boys in South West 1.

Prop Will Houston returns to the squad after injury, but skipper Jamie Cope still has a leg injury.

Andy Merriman, Will Worrall, Jez Habberley and Chris Murray all return to the Witney side for their Southern Counties North match at home to Phoenix.

Joe Rowles gets a deserved start in the back row after showing up well as a replacement last week.
