Following their promising results in two pre-season friendlies, there was disappointment for a young Chinnor, who went down 22-16 at home to newly promoted St Mary's Old Boys, from Bristol.
Playing against the wind, Chinnor found themselves 15 points adrift after 25 minutes.
Both St Mary's tries - by Dean Rogers and Chris Randall - came as a result of Chinnor spilling the ball.
Fly half John Martin converted both and landed a penalty.
James Cathcart opened Chinnor's account with a penalty before half-time, and in the second half landed a penalty from halfway.
Three minutes later, Alan Cawston stormed between the posts for a try. With Cathcart adding the conversion and another penalty, Chinnor went 16-15 ahead.
The visitors then managed to self-destruct. After failing to win their own line-out, they conceded a converted try, which sealed the result.
Chinnor attacked but could not break through again.
