A horrific knee injury to Jon Brooks marred depleted Chinnor's gutsy 22-15 victory over Keynsham at Kingsey Road on Saturday.
The game was held up as the unlucky Brooks had to be stretchered off the field in only his second game back after being sidelined for two months with knee problems.
After the long delay, a fine solo try by old Oxford Blue James Kindon, who rampaged through the Keynsham defence, put Chinnor in the ascendancy, which they never lost.
The home side also had problems before the game when prolific points-scorer James Cathcart had to cry off with tonsillitis.
Darren Oxley was then slotted into the fly half role, only to stand down with neck problems sustained just prior to kick-off.
Johnny David took over the pivotal position and made an excellent job of it.
With Nobby Warner making his first start for the senior side, Tim Wright at full back and Adam White on the wing, this was a much-changed XV from the one Chinnor had hoped to field.
Playing into a stiff breeze, Chinnor took the lead when Ger Phillips and Tim Wright set up the first try for Dave Seymour, who raced over from 40 metres. Leon Westerman added the conversion.
Keynsham replied with two unconverted tries from rolling mauls either side of half-time to take a 10-7 lead.
After Brooks's injury, Kindon's try and Westerman's penalty put Chinnor in charge.
Then flanker Tom Johnson got into the act when he gathered the ball off his toes to outstrip the Keynsham defence and score a thrilling try, Westerman converting from the touchline.
With just two minutes left, Keynsham reduced the arrears, but it was too late.
