Rugby: It's so cruel on Chinnor

From the archive, first published Tuesday 15th Oct 2002.

SOUTH WEST 1: Chinnor suffered a cruel defeat when they lost 27-26 at home to leaders Cinderford, who snatched victory with a try in the dying moments.

Two Conor Begley penalties gave Chinnor a 6-3 interval lead after they had played into the blustery wind.

At the start of the second half, they increased their lead when Nathan Brooks was awarded a touchdown from a maul, Begley adding the extra points, before Cinderford replied with a converted try.

Chinnor restored their ten-point cushion with a try for Charlie Oyebade, converted by Begley, but once again the Forest of Dean side came storming back to level the scores.

Two more penalties by Begley put Chinnor in front yet again, but Cinderford clinched victory again with a converted try.

Begley had one final chance for Chinnor, but the breeze cruelly dislodged the ball on the tee.
